Introduction

Based in the Welsh seaside town of Penarth, TicketSource started with "a lightbulb moment" for founder, Simon Wilsher. He realised he could merge his passions for amateur theatre and technology and develop a solution for online ticket booking. TicketSource was launched in 2004 and transformed the ticket-selling opportunities for local theatre groups.

TicketSource has since grown into a fully-fledged event ticketing business, handling ticket sales for almost 90,000 events each year, from sporting events to literary festivals and everything in between.

Their mission is to unite communities and enhance their living environment by providing a free, user-friendly, and affordable professional online ticket sales system.

Understanding the client

Designed by event organisers for event organisers, we’ve been in your shoes, experienced the same ticketing challenges and scaled the same ticketing peaks – basically, we get it.

Before & after

Brand platform

During the discovery phase of our brand building, through leadership interviews and a team workshop, one thing stuck out — every member of their team was passionate about the arts. Performers, promotors, producers; everyone had real skin in the game when it came to understanding their customers’ challenges. Big personalities who’ve been there, have done that and sold the tickets. This provided an authentic platform for their brand.

Building their character

In a category rife with clichés, we needed to rethink how TicketSource presented itself to 'would-be' Box Office Managers who often lack knowledge about event ticket sales nor have the time to manage them.

Ticketsource needed to a way of speaking to their customer base that skips the jargon and gets straight to the heart of their raison d’etre – positioning them as a ‘refreshingly easy’ choice. Run by people, not spreadsheets or bots.

By pairing a design style that frames their story with depth, economy, and in a way that is compelling and relatable, celebrating the creativity of Ticketsource’s staff and the artistry of the customer base we were able to appeal to both older users and a younger profile of Event Organiser.

In good company

Our brand driver pivots on the use of Company (theatre Company or in a group of people) and throws out a welcoming signal to all. Ticketsource offer free ‘no song-n-dance, farce, comedy and drama’ ticketing for all your song-n-dances, farces, comedies and dramas.

The Ticketsource brand asks – why over complicate things? Their team have been in your shoes, experienced the same ticketing challenges and scaled the same ticketing peaks, so they’ve designed a ticketing system to be simple, cost-and-drama-free. They basically get it. So they’ve designed software with simplicity at its heart – easy ticketing. The new icon, a smiling T, underscores this in shorthand.

UI implementation

Ticketsource provided a comprehensive outline of their new website structure prior to the rebrand so our job was to simply redesign the website utilising assets from the new visual brand and suggest tweaks to messaging to ensure a consistent tone of voice. On completion the designs were handed back to their digital development team to implement.

The brand has been fantastic! It’s weird that after just a few months, I struggle to remember what the old one even looked like. It’s like it’s always been our brand. When we made the switch we had a hugely positive response from our customers, which is always nice. In terms of impact, we’ve actually seen a huge increase in our website conversion rate. The new design makes us look so much more trustworthy and technically capable than our old dated brand.
